Malaysia has not seen the worse yet. Just wait for another few months and you’ll know
because Korean economy and politics are controlled or at least very much influenced by western powers, and that is why Korea always follows the moves of western funds. As a nation, it is luck, or pity? sigh….
(1) South Korea has a bigger stock market than Malaysia and used to attract a lot of investment from foreign funds. During this downturn, foreign funds started to withdraw their funds from Asia and this has done severe damage to the market.
(2) Majority of the companies listed in the korean stock exchange are manufacturing industry. In the event of recession, manufacturing will be one of the hardest hit. Unlike Korea, the companies listed in KLSE are more diversify ( manufacturing, plantation, oil )
(3) Malaysian stock markets has been on a downhill side since the last election. Due to political instability, some foreign funds have already withdrawn their investments and new investors stayed away from the Malaysian market since March. The percentage of foreign share holding in many blue chips stocks (KLSE) have been going down since the election. So this time around, the effect isn’t that great but on the whole the Malaysian market too has already dropped more than 40%.
